BLOG NUMBER 9
READING:
Freedom of Speech is protected by the constitution of the United States of America. Being able to express yourself freely is something that should be a given. A right from birth, however I think the problem comes in when we decide where or where not to draw the line. For example in school our speech is limited, we can’t say certain words or we will get in trouble. Would one consider that to be something that limits my freedom of speech? Speech can be anything, from bad words to saying something that might hurt someone else’s feeling. Should that matter? If not then that means they are going against the constitution, or for example if someone was to make fun of the holocaust. An even better example I would think is the use of the "N" word. Should anyone be able to say it? One could argue that of course they should be able to say it; it’s their freedom of speech. So I think it’s a lot more complex than just the "right" of speech. It’s not as black and white as it seems, another important question is that with the right of speech does the responsibility of its consequences come with it or is that person protected?
